Wine Producer - Europe - Romania
| Prince Stirbey Wine Estate | Rebirth of a tradition
The family of Prince Stirbey has owned vineyards in the Dragasani wine region in southern Romania since the 18th century. Stirbey wines – synonymous with outstanding quality - were well known and appreciated in Romania and throughout Europe.
As granddaughter of Princess Maria Stirbey and owner of the family vineyards, Baroness Ileana Kripp intends to guide this tradition to a new renaissance. Together with her husband, Baron Jakob Kripp, she took over her ancestral property in 2001. They renovated the vineyards and installed state-of-the-art winemaking technology, yet still preserving the gentle and attentive old traditions of local vintners.
The foremost priority is to rediscover and develop the specific character of the indigenous grape varieties which reflect the specific character of the Dragasani region’s “terroir”.
Tasting these wines, one can experience the traditions of Prince Stirbey’s Walachian family as well as the scents and tastes of Romania’s yet undiscovered nature.
