  Tolna

The wine-growing region is located in the central western section of Hungary, south-west of lake Balaton. It was defined as a wine-growing region as recently as 1998, although viticulture has a long tradition here, and dates back to Roman times. Viticulture, which had practically ceased to exist, was revived by German settlers in the 19th century. The summers are dry with plentiful sunshine, the winters are mild. The total vineyard area is around 2200 hectares. The leading grape varieties are Chardonnay, Kadarka, Kékfrankos (Blaufränkisch), Olaszrizling (Welschriesling), Pinot Blanc, Rajnairizling (Rhine Riesling) and Rizlingszilváni (Müller-Thurgau).
