Wine-growing region (GI) in the federal state of South Australia in Australia, located to the southeast of Adelaide, it i spart of the Fleurieu zone. Frank Potts established the Bleasdale Vineyards here around 1850. Today the region is one of the fastest-growing wine-growing regions in Australia. The dry climate is characterised by the opposing influences of cold southerly and hot northerly winds. Sandy alluvial soils require irrigation, which is obtained from Lake Alexandrina and the Bremer River. The vineyard area totals 1.650 hectares. 70% of this area is planted with red varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Merlot. The leading white varieties are Chardonnay and Verdelho. Well-known producers include Bleasdale Vineyards, Bremeron Lodge, Clegett Wines, Lake Breeze Wines and Temple Bruer. A light-coloured variant of Cabernet Sauvignon called Shalistin has been selected and propagated on the Clegett Wines estate.
