The estate is located in Calitzdorp in the district of the same name, in the Klein Karoo wine-growing region in South Africa. It is owned by Carel Nel. Wine has been produced here since the mid-19th century, brandy has been exported from here to London since 1860. The vineyard area totals 70 hectares, they are located at the foot of the Swartberg mountains around 80 kilometres from the coast. The soils are a mixture of clay and gravel. The following varieties are planted: Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Muscadel, Sangiovese, Shiraz, Pinotage and Sauvignon Blanc. The climate is hot and dry, amking it necessary to irrigate the vineyards. The estate is considered to be a leading rpoducer of port-style fortified wines, its products have twice been named best port-style wine in South Africa.
