Important wine-growing region (GI) in the federal state of South Australia in Australia. There ar two sub-regions, High Eden and Springton. The climate is cooler than that of the Barossa Valley further to the south, and rainfall is higher. The two areas together make up the Barossa zone. The first wine estate, Pewsey Vale, was foudned in 1847 by the Englishman Joseph Gilbert (1800-1881). The total vineyard area is around 10.000 hectares. The most important grape varieties are Riesling and Shiraz. The best-known producers include Heggies, Henschke (with its famous Hill of Grace vineyard), Hill Smith Estate, Mountadam and Pewsey Vale.
