One of the five wine-growing regions in South Africa. The vineyard area totals around 32.000 hectares in a radius of around 200 kilometres around Cape Town, along both the Atlantic and Indian ocean coasts. This huge region is also known as the „Two Oceans Region“, as it borders on the Atlantic in the west and on the Indian ocean in the south and south-east. It is characterised by a mild Mediterranean climate with relatively high humidity. The average annual rainfall figure is around 1.200 millimetres. The region includes seven districts - Cape Point, Darling, Paarl, Tygerberg, Stellenbosch, Swartland and Tulbagh. Constantia is a ward on its own. The other four regions in South Africa are Boberg, Breede River Valley, Klein Karoo and Olifants River.
