This wine-growing region is located in Hungary on the north shore of lake Balaton, between Badacsony and Balatonfüred-Csopak. It was known as Balaton-Mellék until 1997. It lies a little distance away from the lake, but is still subject to the positive climatic influences of the lake. The total vineyard area is around 1.500 hectares, the soils are stony limestone and volcanic soils. The leading grape varieties are Chardonnay, Olaszrizling (Welschriesling), Rizlingszilváni (Müller-Thurgau) and Szürkebarat (Pinot Gris).
