This wine-growing region is located in the north-east of Hungary, in between the more famous regions of Eger and Tokaj-Hegyalja. The vineyard area totals around 1600 hectares, the soils are volcanic tuff. More than a thousand wine cellars have been dug into the hillsides here. The climate is cool, but provides plenty of sunshine. Predominantly white wines are produced here. The leading grape varieties are Cabernet Sauvignon, Kékfrankos (Blaufränkisch), Leányka (Feteasca Alba), Olaszrizling (Welschriesling) and Zweigelt.
