The ā€˛Vinyes i Bodegues Miquel Oliverā€¯ estate is located in the commune of Petra on the island of Mallorca in the Balearic islands group. It was founded by Melchor Oliver in 1912. Miquel Oliver was one of the first winemakers to introduce temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Today the estate is run by the fourth generation of the family, in the shape of his sons Jaume and Pilar Oliver. The vineyard area totals 12 hectares, the vineyards are located in the DO region PlĆ  i Llevant. Grape varieties grown include the indigenous varieties Callet, Fogoneu, Mantonegro and Prensal Blanco, as well as Cabernet Sauvignon, Macabeo, Merlot, Muscat, Syrah, Tempranillo and Syrah. Sustainable vineyard practices are implemented. For example, mechanical and manual methods are used instead of chemical herbicides, chemicals for plant protection are kept to a minimum. The reputation of this estate was made when the UniĆ³n de Sumilleres EspaƱola (Spanish sommelier association) named the ā€˛Gran Muscat Miquel Oliver 1994ā€¯ as the best wine in the country. As a consequence, the estate has become known mainly for its white wines.
