The „Vins Miquel Gelabert“ estate is located in the commune of Manacor on the island of Mallorca in the Balearic island group. It was founded by Miquel Gelabert in 1985. The vineyard area totals 8 hectares, located in the DO region Plà i Llevant, divided among the five vineyard sites Es Morro, Es Poas, Es Rafalot, Son Caulse and Son Nadal. Grape varieties grown are the indigenous varieties Mantonegro, Callet and Moll (Prensal Blanc), the Spanish varieties Garnacha Blanca, Garnacha Tinta, Macabeo, Moscatel de Málaga, Parellada and Xarel-Io, as well as the interantional varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer, Malvasia, Merlot, Moscatel de AlejandrÃa, Pinot Nero, Riesling and Shiraz. Production methods combine traditional and modern techniques. Most of the wines are fermented in stainless steel tanks, with the exception of the Chardonnay, which is fermented in Alliers oak. The red wines are matured in American and French barriques for 12 months. After bottling, the wines are matured for a further 6 to 12 months before being released for sale. Annual production is around 20.000 bottles of wine.
