D.O. ca RiojaThe estate is located in the commune of Elciego on the banks of the Ebro river in the Rioja Alavesa sub-region in Rioja in Spain. It was founded in 1969 by the Rivas family, as well as by friends and local grape growers. The first vintage produced was legendary 1970. Today it is owned by the Julián Chivite estate (Navarra region). The vineyard area totals 40 hectares of own vineyards, plus another 100 hectares of leased land, located in the two sub-regions Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa. Grape varieties planted are mainly the classical Rioja varieties, Tempranillo, Graciano and Mazuelo. A total of 8.000 barriques of French and American oak is available for maturation. The Reservas and Gran Reservas are marketed under the „Conde de la Salceda” label.
