Wine estate located in the commune of Vilobí del Penedès in the DO Penedès wine-growing region in Catalonia in Spain. It was founded by Francisco José Doménech in 1865, and is named after an old church by the name of „Santa Maria de Vallformosa”. The name translates as ”beautiful valley”. The Spanish king, Alfonso XIII. (1886-1941), visited the estate in 1904. The operation was certified in accordance with ISO 9001 in 2000. The vineyard area totals 397 hectares, including the following vineyard sites: El Maset, Mas Baltá, Mas Caballé, Masía Can Colomer, Mas Granell, Masía Freyé, Mas La Roca, Masía La Sala and Vallfort. The area is planted with the white varieties Chardonnay, Macabeo, Muscat, Parellada and Xarel-lo, as well as with the red varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Garnacha Tinta, Monastrell, Samsó (Carignan), Syrah and Tempranillo. Several ranges of wines are produced: Selection, Noble, Traditional, MVSA and Gran Barón. 2.500 barriques are available for maturation. Large quantities of cava are also produced, and marketed I nthe same five ranges. The Brut is on of the most highly rated cavas in Spain. Wines sourced from the DO regions Catalunya and Rioja (Primum Vitae Crianza and Reserva) are also produced.
