D.O. ca RiojaWine estate located in the commune of Páganos (Laguardia) in the sub-region of Rioja Alavesa in Rioja in Spain. It was founded in 1987 by a Cuban, Leandro Vázquez. The La Rioja Alta group purchased the estate in 1995. The vineyard area totals 50 hectares, and a neo-classical palacio has been built at the centre of the property. 4.000 barriques are available for maturation. The wine is marketed under the label Barón de Oña. The Reserva is made from 95% Tempranillo and 5% Mazuelo. It is matured for 16 months in American barriques, followed by a further 8 months in French barriques, this is followed by a further two years maturation in the bottle. The average age of the barrels is three years. Around a third of production is exported.
