D.O. ca RiojaThe „Bodegas Riojanas” estate is located in the commune of Cenicero, 20 kilometres from the city of Logroño in the centre of the Rioja Alta sub-region in Rioja in Spain. It was founded in 1890 by the Artacho and Carreras families, it has been owned exclusively by the Artacho family since 1933. Extensive improvements in both the vineyards and cellars were completed in 1990. The area of the own vineyards totals 300 hectares, these are planted primarily with Tempranillo, Mazuelo, Graciano, Garnacha Tinta, Viura, Malvasía de Rioja and Cabernet Sauvignon. Grapes are also bought in, a total of around 3 million kilogrammes of grapes is processed annually. 24.000 barriques are available for maturation. Some of the red wine brands produced are Albina, Chanchales and Puerta Vieja (all made from Tempranillo, Mazuelo, Graciano), Monte Real (Tempranillo) and Peñamonte (Tinta de Toro = original form of Tempranillo). Around 40% of the production is exported.
