The „Bodegas Pinord” estate is located in the commune of Vilafranca del Penedés in the DO region Penedès (Catalonia region) in Spain. It was founded in 1942 by Don José María Tetas. The name is derived from a „Pi del Nord” (pine of the north) which at the time stood four kilometres from the headquarters. A „Vino de Aguja” was produced in 1946. Pinord was thus one of the first producers of perlé wine in Spain. Today, three generations of the family are working in the business. The vineyard area totals 100 hectares, including the Montanyans, El Serral and Coll de Bou vineyard sites. Varieties planted include the Spanish varieties Xarel-Lo, Macabeo, Parellada, Tempranillo and Garnacha Tinta, as well as the international varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer and Merlot. 2.000 barriques are available for maturation. The DO wines are „Clos 15”, „Clos de Torribas” and „Chateldon”. The red wine „Pi del Nord” is a straight varietal Cabernmet Sauvignon matured in French oak for 24 months. A large quantity of sparkling cava is also produced. In addition, a wide variety of other products such as sweet wines, dessert wines, sangria, brandy, flavoured cooking wines, herb liqueurs, wine vinegar (Cabernet Sauvignon) and olive oil are also produced. A second winery is maintained close to the commune of Bellmunt del Priorat in the DOCa region Priorato (Catalonia region). The vineyard „Mas Blanc” is planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cariñena (Carignan), Garnacha Tinta, Merlot and Syrah vines. Organic vineyard practices are implemented here, with no use at all of chemical herbicides or insecticides. The DOCa red wines „Balcons” and „+7” are produced here.
