La Rioja
D.O. ca RiojaThe estate is located in the commune of Briones, eight kilometres from the city of Haro in the Rioja Alta sub-region of Rioja in Spain. The Spanish word âallendeâ translates as âfurtherâ, or âgo onâ, and signifies the philosophy of the founding family. The de Gregorio family has been involved in wine production in Rioja for many generations. In 1995 Miguel Ăngel de Gregorio bought an old winery building in Briones, and started re-cultivating small parcels of vineyard with old vines. The wine cellar, which dates back to 1760, was expanded and renovated. The vineyard area now totals 42 hectares, the area is planted mainly with Tempranillo and some Graciano. Wine-making techniques are traditional, the grapes are not destemmed, and are fermented in open concrete tanks for two to three weeks, with constant punching down of the caps. Depending on the vintage, the wines are matured for 10 to 15 months. 2.200 barriques are available for maturation, 80% are of French oak, and 20% are of American oak from Virginia. The barriques are filled a maximum of four times. Some of the wines are not filtered before bottling, in order to retain maximum flavour. Around 75% of production is exported.
