La RiojaThe huge „Bodegas Faustino” estate (previously „Bodegas Faustino Martínez”) with a total vineyard area of 650 hectares is located in the Rioja Alavesa sub-region of Rioja in Spain, the headquarters are located in Oyón. It was founded by the Martínez family in 1860, it is still owned by the family, with the fourth generation currently in charge. Faustino is one of the leading producers in Rioja, several million bottles are kept in the cellars for maturation, after the wines were first matured in the 20.000 barriques. The main brand is „Faustino V”, available in white, rosado and red variants (Reserva) made from Tempranillo (85%) as well as from some Graciano and Mazuelo. In addition, there is „Faustino Martínez Blanco Crianza” made from Viura (100%), and matured in barrel for six months. The latest addition to the product range is „Faustino de Autor”, a Reserva matured in French barriques for two years. A rosé is also produced. The flagship wine is the „Faustino I Gran Reserva”. A Gran Reserva matures in barriques for two years, followed by another three years either in tanks or in bottle which means it is only marketed in the sixth year following the vintage. The wines are packaged in light-coloured bottles of matt glass, with artistic labels designed by famous artists. Most of the grapes are sourced from the own vineyards, annual production is around 7 million bottles of wine. The „Bodegas Campillo” estate, also in the Rioja Alavesa sub-region, with 50 hectares of vineyards, is also part of the family empire.
