Galicia

DO in the wine-growing region of Galicia in north-west Spain, close to the border with Portugal. The DO is named after the city of the same name (translates as mountain of the king), and borders in the east on the DO Rías Baixas. The total vineyard area is around 550 hectares, most of the vineyards are located in the Támega valley. The climate is extremely hot. Mainly white varieties are planted, for example Doña Blanca, Godello, Monstruosa (Blanca de Monterrei), Palomino, Treixadura and Verdello. The red varieties are Mancía and Tinto Fino (Tempranillo). There are only 4 wine estates (bodegas) in the region.
