Castilla-La Mancha

The DO is named after the town of the same name, it is part of the large La Mancha wine-growing region in Spain. It lies to the east of Madrid, and borders on the DO La Mancha in the north. Mondéjar is divided into two sub-zones located at a distance of 10 kilometres from each other. The vineyard area totals 750 hectares, this is planted mainly with the white variety Malvar. Other white varieties planted are Macabeo (Viura), Torrontés and small amounts of Airén. Mainly white wines are produced. The red wines are made from Cencibel (Tempranillo), Cabernet Sauvignon, Tinto de Madrid, Garnacha Tinta and Jaén. The focus is on varietal wines, and on barrique-matured red wines.
