DO wine-growing region located in the large La Mancha region in Spain, named after the town of the same name. It lies to the north-west of the DO La Mancha, between Toledo and Madrid. The total vineyard area is 12.800 hectares, the vineyards are dominated by the red varieties Garnacha Tinta (80%) and Cencibel (Tempranillo), these are used to produce red wines and rosados mainly for consumption in the capital of Madrid nearby. The DO does not cover white wines.
