Murcia

This DO is named after the city of the same name, and is located in the Murcia region in the Levante, in Spain. The city of Bullas was founded by Romans. The vineyard area totals around 2.300 hectares, these are located at an altitude of 500 to 800 metres above sea level. Permitted red varieties are Monastrell, which accounts for more than 90% of the total, and Tempranillo, there are also experimental plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon, Garnacha, Syrah and Merlot. Rosados make up two thirds of the production, and red wines one third. Tiny quantities of white wine are produced from Macabeo and Airén.
