The ā€˛Bodegas Campilloā€¯ estate is located just outside of Laguardia in the Rioja Alavesa sub-region in Rioja in Spain. It was founded in 1861, and has been part of the Faustino group since 1990. In the past, Campillo was considered to be a sort of second label for Faustino. Only Campillo wines were filled into new barriques, in order, so one thought, to ā€˛break inā€¯ the barrels and ā€˛take off the edgeā€¯. However, this had the (undesirable and unintentional) effect that the second label (Campillo) was frequently better than the first label (Faustino). Nowadays Campillo is regarded as a separate brand in its own right, and is marketed as such. The vineyard area totals 50 hectares, these are planted aminly with Tempranillo, as well as with Graciano, Viura, MalvasĆ­a and Cabernet Sauvignon. The product range includes the Reserva Especial (60% Tempranillo, 40% others), Gran Reserva (100% Tempranillo), Reserva (75% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano, 15% others), Crianza (100% Tempraniollo), Rosado (100% Tempranillo) and Blanco (Viura, MalvasĆ­a). Around 20% of production is exported.

Unfortunately, no wines have been submitted for several years now, so that we are unable to form a meaningful opinion on the current performance of this producer. For this reason, we see no option but to suspend the classification until further notice.
