The historic estate is located in Logroño in the Rioja Alta sub-region in Rioja in Spain. It was founded in 1872 by Luciano de Murrieta, it has been owned by the aristocratic family of Cebrian, Condes de Creixell, since 1983. The vineyard area totals 300 hectares. This estate was the first to produce a Rioja matured in barriques. The wines exhibit one of the longest maturation potentials of the region. The flagship wine is „Castillo de Ygay”, available in both red and white versions. The red Gran Reserva matures in oak for ten years, and is generally only produced once or twice in a decade. Well-known British wine author Hugh Johnson has described it enthusastically as the „Mouton-Rothschild of Spain”. The white „Dorado de Murrieta Reserva”(91% Viura, 6% Malvasia, 3% Garnacha Blanca) matures in oak barrels for 40 months. The standard Rioja wine is the „Colección 2100”. Annual production is around 1,8 million bottles of wine.
