Huge beverage group, currently bears the name „Grupo Osborne“, with headqaurters in the port city of Puerto de Santa Maria close to Cádiz in the Andalucia region in Spain. Osborne has based its advertising on the silhouette of a steer since 1956, which is ubiquitously present in Spain, has survived all attempts to ban advertising, and is now, since a supreme court decision in 1997, protected for all time as a registered brand/trade mark. The company was founded in 1772 by Englishman Thomas Osborne Mann (1749-1854). The company quickly became one of the leading producers of sherry. The two sons of the founder, Tomás and Juan-Nicolás received the specially created ducal title of „Conde de Osborne“ from pope Pius IX. (1792-1878) in 1869. The sherry producer Duff-Gordon was taken over in 1872. This name is still used as a second label for sherry and port. The company has been run since 1996 by Tomás Osborne Gamero-CÃvico and his cousin Ignacio Osborne Cólogan. The company owns 210 hectares of vineyards in the Sherry region. Sherries produced under the Osborne label include Fino Quinta (Fino Pale Dry), Coquinero (Amontillado Dry), 10 RF = Reserva Familiar (Oloroso Medium), Cream, El Amigo (Medium Dry), Pamela Cream and Pale Dry. The limited solera bottlings sold in numbered bottles under the „Rare“ label are considered to bet he best. The Brandy de Jerez „Conde de Osborne“ is marketed in porcelain bottles, and is one of the best brandies in Spain. The bottle and label were designed by the famous Spanish artist Salvador Dali (1904-1989).
The company owns, at least in part in the form of shares, the following wine estates: Montecillo (Rioja), Bodegas Aalto (Ribera del Duero) and Osborne Selección Malpica (Toledo); as well as the sherry house Bobadilla; the mineral water company Balneario y Aguas de Solán de Cabras; the meat processing and sausage factory Sánchez Romero Carvajal; the distribution company Osborne Distribuidora; the liqueur company AnÃs del Mono; the spirits company Bodegas Osborne Tomelloso (formerly Jonás Torres); as well as the restaurant group Restauradora de Mesones.
