D.O. ca RiojaThe „Bodegas Berberana” estate is located in Cenicero in the Rioja Alta sub-region in Rioja in Spain. It was founded by Martinez Berberana in Ollauri in 1877. The move to the current location took place in 1975. After having changed owners several times, the estate is now owned by Arco Bodegas Unidas. The chief oenologist is Camello Angula. Shares are held by five large co-operatives in the Rioja region, with a total vineyard area of 3.000 hectares. The cellar has cement as well as stainless steel tanks, as well as state-of-the-art refrigeration and bottling facilities. 50.000 barriques of American oak are available for maturation. A total of around 2,5 million bottles of wine is maturing in the cellars at any one time. Among the brands produced are Carta de Oro Gran Reserva (80% Tempranillo, 20% Garnacha) and Viña Alarde Gran Reserva (70% Tempranillo, 20% Garnacha, 10% Mazuelo/Graciano), these are both matured in barriques for three years. Around 45% of production is exported all over the world. There is a joint venture with the Marqués de Griñon estate.
