Vinexpo
15.05.2008
Threat by overseas exhibitors

Readers letter (so far 0)

Overseas exhibitors are apparently considering a collective withdrawal from the Vinexpo trade fair. In 2009, Australia, Argentina, Chile, South Africa and New Zealand may well be absent from the Bordeaux show.

As reported in various media, representatives of overseas wine-growing countries met at the ProWein show in the spring in order to discuss a concerted withdrawal from Vinexpo. At this stage, various alternatives are being discussed, such as an exclusive New World tasting in Europe just before the next Vinexpo show, or a three-day tasting in London, which could take place in autumn next year.

Many overseas exhibitors are dissatisfied with Vinexpo, referring particularly to the breakdown of air-conditioning in the very hot year of 2003, and the general dominance of French exhibitors. (WF)
