Extremely satisfied with young wines
Readers letter (so far 0)
According to a statement, the German association of premium wine estates (Verband der Prädikatsweingüter VDP) is "extremely happy" with the young wines of the 2007 vintage. Many wine producers, too, have made positive assessments.
According to the Kreuzberg estate (Ahr), 2007 has produced "very elegant, fruit-driven Pinots". The Burg Ravensburg estate in Baden emphasises: "2007 was a superb vintage for us, the wines are developing perfectly, the alcohol is not too high, and they have a perfect balance of acidity and body". Similarly enthusiastic comments have come from Franken, where the Bürgerspital reports "brilliant, clear aromas". It claims Riesling and red wines are the winners of the 2007 vintage.
More happy producers can be found in the Mosel region. Clemens Busch in Pünderich: "The 2007 vintage has so far fulfilled all expectations. In line with our cellar philosophy, we are giving our wines as much time to ferment as they need. So far, the wines are seen to be light-bodied and lively, with a good acid balance." In the Nahe region, the Emrich-Schönleber estate reports "extremely exciting minerally wines, particularly among the dry wines". The Biffar estate in the Pfalz region reports "many of the wines arestill closed on the nose, but are extremely complex on the palate".
Peter Jakob Kühn in the Rheingau region, finally, states the wines are developing "very evenly". Fermentation was "free of problems", the wines have "a good balance of fruit, acidity and minerality". He believes the wines are "undergoing a very relaxed development, as they also had an extended and stress-free vegetation period in 2007". (WF/Pressemitteilung VDP)
