Average price increases

Readers letter (so far 0)

The German association of premium wine estates, the VDP, has pronounced the market showed a positive development over the past year. In spite of the difficult vintage, the average price per bottle was increased slightly.

The 198 premium wine estates have concluded both the domestic and the export markets showed a positive development. As a result of the small harvest volume in 2006, the 198 premium wine estates were able to meet only part of the demand in 2007, with total sales remaining at the same level as in 2006, around 35 million bottles. The average price increased slightly to 8,90 Euros. There was a slight decrease in exports, which is attributed to the small harvest volume in 2006.

The association reports strong growth trends for all European markets with the exception of the UK. Demand in the USA is also strong, although there are signs the strong Euro exchange rate is starting to have an effect. The comment on the Japanese market is that it demands patients and perseverance. (WF/press release VDP)
