St. Antony will not disappear, after all
Readers letter (so far 0)
It now appears the name of the St. Antony wine estate on the Rhine river will not disappear after all, and the term Heyl zu Herrnsheim will also remain, albeit only as a range of wines.
In contrast to reports carried on Wein-plus indicating otherwise, which were based on reports from industry services such as Wine Business International, the St. Antony estate will be merging with the Heyl zu Herrnsheim estate, but the name will be retained. The joint new estate will be known as the "Weingut St. Antony". An elegant solution has been found for the Heyl zu Herrnsheim name: the name will be retained for a range of wines within the St.-Antony portfolio. In fact, separate membership of the VDP association will be applied for for this range.
The decision had become necessary as both estates had moved into a joint cellar complex; it appears the wine authorities will not allow two wine estates operating separately to be registered at the same address. (WF)
