Vinexpo: Threat by overseas exhibitors
Overseas exhibitors are apparently considering a collective withdrawal from the Vinexpo trade fair. In 2009, Australia, Argentina, Chile, South Africa and New Zealand may well be absent from the Bordeaux show.

It now appears the name of the St. Antony wine estate on the Rhine river will not disappear after all, and the term Heyl zu Herrnsheim will also remain, albeit only as a range of wines.

USA: Thirst for champagne declines
Americans in the USA are currently not showing any particular desire to consume champagne. Exports of the cult sparkling wine to the USA declined by a third in January.

Georgia: Wine trade fair in Tbilisi

Rheinhessen/Germany: St. Antony to disappear (almost)
The German wine estates Heyl zu Herrnsheim and St. Antony are to merge. In future, reference to the St. Antony estate, which has a long tradition, is to be restricted to a mention on the back label.

Bordeaux: Parker holds back
US wine critic Robert Parker has published his ratings of the 2007 vintage in Bordeaux. As expected, his opinions on the reds are guarded, indeed reticent, but many of the whites are given high ratings.

VDP/Germany: Average price increases
The German association of premium wine estates, the VDP, has pronounced the market showed a positive development over the past year. In spite of the difficult vintage, the average price per bottle was increased slightly.
