World wine production decreases
Readers letter (so far 0)
According to calculations presented by the OIV, world wine production in 2007 was significantly reduced, while worldwide consumption remained unchanged.
As reported in the online edition of Wine Business International, the organisation Internationale de la Vigne et du Vin (OIV) has reported a reduction in worldwide wine production in 2007 of six to eight per cent, compared to the previous year. The world wine organisation believes this is a result of small harvest volumes and of uprooting campaigns. While production increased significantly, for example, in South America, it was significantly reduced in Europe, as a result of financial incentives for uprooting vines. The OIV states that wine consumption remained unchanged in the reporting period. (WF)
