Success for German wines
Readers letter (so far 0)
The Vinalies Internationales competition held in Paris in early March saw German wines garner eight gold medals and seven silver medals. Unfortunately, there were only 15 entrants from Germany, in a field of 3.000 wines entered in total.
The competition is organised by the French oenological association, and attracted more than 3.000 entries from around the world - but only 15 German wines. An international jury awarded the medals. The most successful German entrant was the Werner Anselmann estate in the Pfalz region, which picked up five gold and three silver medals. Two gold medals went to the Jechtingen cooperative in Baden. One silver medal each went to the Aufricht estate in Baden, the Wagner estate in Rheinhessen, the Franken district cooperative and the Deinhard sparkling wine cellars. In addition, the Fürst von Metternich sparkling wine cellars were awarded a gold medal for its Rheingau Riesling brut sparkling wine. (WF/press release)
