Britons take bigger sip of Cape wine
Readers letter (so far 0)
South African wines have overtaken their French competitors on the British market - for the first time ever.
It appears Britons are showing increasing interest in South African wines, while the traditionally popular French wines are being given the cold shoulder treatment. Sales of South African wines increased by 20 per cent over the past twelve months, compared with the previous year, while (volume) sales for French wines in the United Kingdom decreased by twelve per cent. At this stage, South Africa ranks fourth in the market, behind Australia, Italy and California. (WF)
