Decline in prices for Icon-Wines?
Bordeaux Fine Wine Prices are back to normal!
From Werner Feldner
Readers letter (so far 1)

The time for exorbitant prices for Fine Wines is over. No matter what wines you prefer you will find them at a 3-years low these days

Blue Chip Bordeaux of the most highly speculative stocks like Petrus or La Tache 2005 were overpriced after getting on the market in the first place or just 2nd Growth Bordeaux or most Supertuscans, all prices fell quite strongly. As you can see in my table below the last eBay prices are sometimes even below the En Primeur prices or closely to them.

Bordeaux 2005 prices declined but remain unaffordable for many wine lovers

The global financial crises showed that the world of Fine Wine is not immune against such impacts and the fall of prices is not yet over. More and more wine lovers sell their cellars full of wine and this is a chance for others to make a good bargain for further investment in Icon-Wines. Whether "Fine Wine" is for hoarding and trading or - as the vintners see it – for drinking, it´s a good time for consumers. On eBay you may find some real bargains. But caution: if you buy from a private seller you have no guarantee and no right of conversion.

As you can see the above prices are still quite high for the 2005 Bordeaux but declined since their Hype in 2007. Prices from eBay auctions, that represent a fair market value, are taken from the WPI of www.winecollect.eu. Similar prices are achieved at other auction houses as well. Most wines of the above table are still too young to drink. But their prices will go up again the more of these wines are drunk. However, a lot of patience is required. Recently I wrote on Wein-Plus.com which wines are good enough to speculate on and nothing has changed since. Rare wines will always have their prices and if you own some of such Icon-Wines it is your decision when to sell them. This is the game of buying and selling, winning or losing. Those who invest in wine and see wine as a commodity know that Wine Investment is for the long term. Those who drink it, have a good opportunity buying better wines for cheaper prices now. And what could be more stunning than a great wine to enjoy a wine lover’s palate.
