German Wine Institute announces Pinot Noir awards

Readers letter (so far 0)

This year, the German Wine Institute has nominated the best Pinot Noirs for the first time within the framework of the federal wine competition run by the German Agricultural Association.

First prize went to the Wilhelmshof winery and sparkling wine cellars in Siebeldingen in the Pfalz region for their 2007 Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) „Wilhelm“, which the jury found to be rich and complex with elegant barrique notes. Second place went to the Villa Heynburg estate in Kappelrodeck in Baden for their 2008 Spätburgunder trocken (dry). Third place went to the 2007 Spätburgunder Auslese trocken from the Oberbergen cooperative in the Kaiserstuhl district in Baden. (WF/press release)
