Tiny production volumes in 2009
Readers letter (so far 0)
Wine producers in the German regions of Saxony and Saale-Unstrut brought in an extremely small harvest in 2009.
The wine producers associations of the two wine growing regions have reported that 2009 saw the smallest vintage for many years - in Saxony, you have to go back 13 years to find a vintage in which even fewer grapes were brought in. Wine producers in the Saale-Unstrut have only 2.25 million litres to show for their troubles, around half the volume produced from the 2008 vintage. In fact, production was even lower, relatively speaking, in Saxony: they produced around 940.000 litres of wine, only one third of the previous year's production. (WF)
