Mosel 2008
29.10.2008
Generally good, but no euphoria
Readers letter (so far 0)
Wine producers in the Mosel region are happy with the results so far of the 2008 harvest. However, in contrast to previous years, there is no euphoria.
As reported by Mosel Wein e.V., the vintage can be classified as "good" in terms of both quality and volume. The total volume is slightly below that of the previous vintage. The average must weight as per the 20th of October was 80° Oechsle, although with appropriate selection 90° had also been achieved. However, as stated by Mosel viticultural association president Adolf Schmitt, the region has not been "as favoured by nature as in 2005 or 2007.
The average must weight for Müller-Thurgau is 70 degrees Oechsle, and only 65 for Elbling. Results are slightly better for the Pinot varieties: Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir came in at average figures of 90 resp. 95 Oechsle. (WF)
