Klingelberger joins the Ark
Readers letter (so far 0)
The grape variety Klingelberger has been selected by the Slow Food association to come on board the "Ark of Taste".
The grape variety Klingelberger was selected by the Slow Food association for inclusion in the "Ark of Taste", this was announced at Schloss Staufenberg castle in Baden. This means the variety, just as Pinot Madeleine from the Ahr region or the Tauberschwarz grape are considered to be particularly deserving of protection. The ark currently has 29 passengers on board, from ancient cattle breeds to worm-ridden cheese.
Klingelberger is a synonym for Riesling, and has been cultivated since 1776, and added to in 1782, on a 2.5 hectare site known as the Klingelberg. A part of the parcel of land has since been replanted with scions of old Riesling variants. (WF)
