Winery sabotaged

Readers letter (so far 0)

An attack on a wine cooperative in the Languedoc region has caused damages estimated at 300.000 Euros. Nobody was hurt in the attack.

Unknown persons opened the valves on several tanks of wine at the Val d’Orbieu cooperative, allowing many thousands of litres of wine to run into the sewerage system. Estimates put the damages at around 300.000 Euros. It is thought the attack was materminded by the criminal organization CRAV (Comité Regional d'Action Viticole), as their initials were found at the site. However CRAV, which has been responsible for several attacks in the past, denied responsibility. Val d'Orbieu produces among others the internationally successful wine "Cuvée Mythique". Insiders assume jealousy could be a reason for the action. (WF)
