Vine genetic resources to be recorded
Readers letter (so far 0)
The genetic diversity of vines in Germany is to be comprehensively recorded in a study commissioned by the German federal department of agriculture.
The German federal department for agriculture, nutrition and consumer protection intends to visit old vineyards in order to record old grape varieties and clones. The Andreas Jung office for ampelography and clone selection as well as the engineering office of Claus Fischer have been awarded the contract to record vine genetic resources in Germany. The project calls for the experts to record all remaining plots of old vines planted with either traditional varieties or locally proven rare clones within the next three years.
Wine growers have been requested to report old ungrafted vineyards planted before 1950: arge@verm.de.
