Readers letter (so far 0)
A new wine-growing region could be established soon to the south and southwest of the city of Leipzig in Saxony in Germany.
As reported by the Weinreporter, there are moves afoot to palnt a considerable area with vines close to the city of Leipzig. As a result of the restoration of an area previously covered by open-cast coal mines, new lakes have been established, as well as agricultural land suitable vor vine growing. Two hectares of vineyards have already been planted, and there are plans to expand on this. The Weinreporter even mentions applications for the granting of planting rights for up to 150 hectares of vines in the region. (WF)
