Small harvest volume in Pessac-Léognan?
Readers letter (so far 1)
It appears likely the frost damage caused in France in April will have significant effects on the 2008 vintage. Wine producers in the Pessac-Léognan appellation fear they may face losses of up to 50 per cent.
Up to 50 per cent of the volume of a normal harvest could be lost as a result of the frost in April. However, the grapes left hanging may well produce some exceptional wines, their current condition has given cause for high expectations. Of course, the combination of low volumes and high quality would have its consequences: speculation has already begun on possibly higher prices the consumer will face. (WF)
