Imports increase

Readers letter (so far 0)

Switzerland has imported significantly more wine in the first half of 2008 than in the corresponding period last year.

In the first half of 2008, Switzerland has imported more drinking wine than in the corresponding period 2007. According to the Swiss Wine Newspaper, imports increased by around three per cent. Both red and white wines increased. A slight decrease in the volumes of sparkling wines imported was offset by an increase in value in this category (mainly attributable to Champagne). Imports from Chile and Argentina increased significantly, but there was also growth in the volume of white wines from Germany imported during the first half of 2008. (WF)
