Wine with Hitler label expected to fetch a high price
Readers letter (so far 0)
A bottle of wine with a portrait of Adolf Hitler on the label is expected to fetch up to 500 pounds sterling on an auction in Great Britain.
As reported by the online edition of the magazine "Decanter", as well as by British newspapers, the bottle, which dates from 1943, is to be sold on auction in Plymouth this coming weekend. It was found in France, and was reputedly a gift for high-ranking Nazi officials. The label bears the words "Schwarzer Tafelwein" (black table wine), it contains a red wine of no known origin.
According to press reports, the organisers of the auction have no moral doubts about the auction. In contrast to the regulations in Germany, the sale of such devotional items is not banned in the United Kingdom. In Italy, too, there have been repeated sales of bottles of wine showing Adolf Hitler on the label; it appears there is a sizeable market for such products.
