New York State in the USA is to permit the manufacture and sale of ice cream containing alcohol. However, the creamy product, which is made with Zinfandel, Merlot or Chardonnay, may only be sold to customers at least 21 years of age.
Just like most other federal states in the USA, New York has rather strict regulations concerning the consumption of alcohol. Now, the efforts by politicians and the small company Mercer's Dairy have been successful. Zinfandel ice, Chocolate Cabernet ice cream as well as Cherry Merlot and Royal White Riesling may be sold, but only to customers who can document they are at least 21 years old. The product has an alcohol content of approximately 5 per cent. (WF)
