A 2005 Spätburgunder wine by Werner Näkel (Weingut Meyer-Näkel estate) in the Ahr region in Germany has won the Pinot Noir Trophy of the British wine magazine Decanter.
The 2005 Dernauer Pfarrwingert Spätburgunder Grosses Gewächs from the Meyer-Näkel estate was selected as the best German Pinot Noir, and then went on to become overall winner of the Decanter World Wine Awards, beating the category winners from New Zealand, Chile and Burgundy (a 2006 Chambertin Grand Cru, Maison Camille Giroud).
