Wine eleven football team

Moral winners

Readers letter (so far 0)

Although the German Wine Eleven lost its match against the established SC Freiburg team, it can in some respects consider itself to be the moral winner - and that would somehow add up to a draw...

The German Wine Eleven, the football team of the German wine industry, played the established team of the SC Freiburg club in the Forest Stadium in Breisach last Saturday - and eventually lost by a margin of 3:7. Although the Freiburg team clearly landed more goals, they also recognised and applauded the fairness of the Wine Eleven. As the Freiburg team had come onto the field short of two players, the Wine Eleven also volunterred to play without two of their players, to level the playing field.

At the game, the Wine Eleven team and its sponsoring partner, the Rheinland-Pfalz Bank, made a donation of 1.500 Euros for the cancer rehabilitation clinic Katharinenhöhe in Schönwald. (WF)
