Kallfelz wins yet again
Readers letter (so far 0)
At the fifth Riesling Grand Prix competition, a wine produced by Mosel wine estate Kallfelz has been named the winner - for the third time. Second and third places went to Riesling wines from the Pfalz and from Rheinhessen.
A dry Riesling from a steep sloping site on the Mosel has won first prize at the 5th Riesling Grand Prix, held in Trier. 800 jurors in the Arena Trier blind-tasted 20 wines, and voted the 2007 Riesling Hochgewächs of the Albert Kallfelz estate in Zell-Merl the best wine. This is the third time Kallfelz has been the winner in this competition. Second-best was the 2007 Dürkheimer Spielberg Riesling Kabinett trocken produced by the Pflüger estate in Bad Dürkheim (Pfalz), while third place went to the 2007 Riesling Geyersberg S produced by the Oekonomierat Johann Geil-Erben estate in Bechtheim (Rheinhessen).
Places 4 to 7 went to a string of dry Riesling wines all produced by Mosel wine estates: Richard Richter (Winningen), Franz-Josef Eifel (Trittenheim), Kees-Kieren (Graach) and Paul Schunk (Bruttig-Fankel). Also among the top ten wines were wines from the Caves Krier Frères estate in Remich (Luxembourg), from the Divino Nordheim cooperative (Franken) and from the Im Zwölberich estate in Langenlonsheim (Nahe).
