Heavy metals in wine

Readers letter (so far 0)

According to a study by British scientists, many wine contain heavy metals at levels that present a hazard to health.

Researchers at Kingston University in London have foundthat some wines contain levels of heavy ,etals that can be considered to be hazardous to health. According to an article in the publication Chemistry Central Journal, the "heaviest" wines hail from Slovakia, as well as from Hungary, with German wines in the mid-field of wines analysed, which came from 16 different countries. The main metals found were vanadium, copper and manganese, and chrome, nickel and lead were also found.

The scientists recommend that the heavy metal content should in future be stated on the label. (WF)
