Ban on free tastings?

Readers letter (so far 0)

According to a draft law, the free dispensing of wine is to be banned in France. If the plan becomes reality, even exhibitors at wine trade shows will be forced to charge for tastings.

The French government has been discussing the plan, which would ban the free dispensing of alcoholic beverages for advertising purposes, and would also ban flat-rate drinking offers. Numerous politicians and media have criticised the idea. Teh term "prohibition" has even been mentioned in this regard. Even trade shows such as Vinexpo would have to find other means of providing tasting samples to visitors. There do, however, appear to be some loopholes: it appears the actual level of tasting fees is not to be prscribed, so nominal amounts could be charged, And it remains open whether the law will be enacted in this present form.
